The HSE will be blitzing businesses in Kent this February to make sure they are conforming with asbestos regulations. Working together with local authorities, they will first mailshot 1300 letters to local companies and when they receive the responses, will deicide if an inspection visit is needed.
The HSE said "Asbestos related diseases are still the largest occupational killers in the UK with around 4,000 deaths per year. These figures are continuing to rise and about 25 percent of those dying from
asbestos related disease have worked in building, maintenance and repair trades at some time in their working life."
So what should you do if you are worried about conforming, these are the three essential stpes as deifned by the HSE:
- Find out if your premises contains asbestos and if it does where it is and what condition it is in
- If you do have asbestos, assess the risk it poses
- Make a plan to manage the risk and act on it
We are a fully HSE licensed asbestos contractor (HSE license number 4840600671) and can help you with all 3 of these steps.
